Tim Ward, Governor

Tim Ward is the Building Official for the City of Oak Ridge, TN and has held this position since 1978. From 1973 through 1975 he attended engineering extension courses at the University of Wisconsin to complete his formal education. From 1976 through 1977 Tim held the position of Project Manager for the US Homes Corp. Il. Division. While serving Oak Ridge for almost twenty five (25) years, Tim has managed to stay involved locally, regionally and internationally.  As an active SBCCI member, he has served on numerous committees including being elected to SBCCI's Board of Directors from 1994 to 1999. Tim was appointed to also serve as the SBCCI representative to the ICC Board of Directors from 1995 through January of 2003. In 2002, the World Organization of Building Officials (WOBO) Board of Governors appointed Tim along with NFPA President (now retired) George Miller to serve as Governors on WOBO and while attending the WOBO World Congress in May of 2003, he was elected to serve another three-year term as a WOBO Governor.

Tim is currently certified in building inspection and as a housing rehabilitation inspector. He has served on a number of committees with the Tennessee Building Officials Association and has held the post of President for both the eastern and state associations. Tim was appointed by the Governor of the State of Tennessee to serve as the state building officials spokesman on various committees including inspector certification and for the construction of the Tennessee's new fire/codes academy.

Tim has also received acknowledgement from his peers in Tennessee by being elected a two time recipient of both the Eastern Chapter and State of Tennessee "Code Official of the Year" in 1990, 1991 and 1992.  In addition, he also holds a number of commendations from three different state Governors for his active involvement and hard work toward promoting building safety throughout the State of Tennessee. Tim is honored to hold the Number 1 on his state issued inspector certification card.
