Omkar Nath Channan, Founding President/Governor

Omkar Nath Channan, Founding President, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, was the Founding President of WOBO and served as President from 1984 to 1990; he is presently one of the active Governors, since 1990. During his tenure as Founding President he obtained Special Consultative status with the Economic & Social Council of the United Nations, and United Nations Industrial Development Organization and attended Sessions of European Commission, and of the U.N. Commission on Human Settlements since 1986. 

Mr. Channan's affiliations include: Senator: University of Calgary (1996 to 1999); President of the Calgary-Jaipur Development Foundation (Sister cities of India and Canada); President of the United Nations Association in Canada Calgary Branch; Regional Vice President of the United Nations Association in Canada; President of the Association of Interpreters and Translators of Canada; Member of the International Business and Events Committee of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce; Key Member of the Trade Delegation to India of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce; Key Member of the Trade Mission to India of the City of Calgary; Led Crew of CFCN Television based in Calgary to India to film five series of Focus on India and documentary Rajasthan Land of Kings. 

He has author: Comprehensive Digest of East African Civil Law Reports: and The Role of Court Interpreter with a Foreword by The Right Hon. The Lord Hailsham of St. Marylebone, P.C., C.H., former Chancellor of the British House of Lords; and History of  Twinning of Calgary and Jaipur (City Sisters). 

In addition Mr. Channan has been recognized for his achievements as follows:  Governor-General's Commemorative Canada 125 Years Medal; Alberta Achievements Award from the Government of Alberta; Governor of the State of Commonwealth of Kentucky, USA, conferred the honor and the use of the title "The Honorable Colonel"; Mayor of the City of Calgary officially recognized major and outstanding contribution  to the growth  and development of the World Organization of Building Officials and Calgary Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Contribution Recognition: Association of Building Engineers of the United Kingdom awarded a Peter Stone Award, and Honorary Member of many reputable organizations in the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.
